Product Overview
The BirdDog EYES P400 (Black) is a 4K 10-bit Full NDI® PTZ camera designed for commercial AV integration, broadcast production, and house of worship deployments. Built around an 8.5MP Sony CMOS backlit sensor with 20x optical zoom and Full NDI® over Gigabit Ethernet, the P400 outputs 4K UHD via 6G-SDI and HDMI simultaneously, making it compatible with both IP and traditional SDI production environments. It is a direct step up from 1080p NDI cameras for integrators requiring 4K resolution with proven NDI reliability and full VISCA/RS-422 control integration.
Product Description
The BirdDog EYES P400 uses an 8.5MP 1/2.5" Sony CMOS backlit sensor delivering 4K UHD at up to 4Kp30 with YCbCr 4:2:2 10-bit color depth over 6G-SDI. The 20x optical zoom is supplemented by Super Resolution Zoom: 30x in 4K and 40x in HD mode — providing long-throw capability without optical compromise. This combination of sensor size, zoom range, and 10-bit SDI output positions the P400 as a strong candidate for multi-camera conference room deployments, training facilities, and mid-size worship venues where 4K quality is required but the 1" sensor of the P4K is not justified.
Like all BirdDog Full NDI cameras, the P400 transmits visually lossless video over standard Gigabit Ethernet on a single cable. Control is via NDI auto-configuration, VISCA IP, and dual RS-232/RS-422/RS-485 serial ports — providing the integration breadth required for control system automation, hardware PTZ keyboards, and production switchers. Power is via PoE+ (802.3at) or 12V DC. The camera includes bi-color tally, 128 presets, browser-based BirdUI configuration, and RESTful API support. Compatible with the BirdDog KBD PTZ Controller and BirdDog Central for multi-camera NDI routing. Also available in white finish.

Does the P400 support NDI|HX?
No. The P400 transmits Full Bandwidth NDI® only. This provides visually lossless 4K at approximately 140–200Mbps. For NDI|HX3 support in 4K60, see the BirdDog X5 Ultra.
What is the difference between the P400 and P4K?
The P400 uses a 1/2.5" 8.5MP Sony sensor and 20x optical zoom; the P4K uses a larger 1" 14.2MP Sony sensor with 12x zoom. The P4K provides better low-light performance and depth-of-field for large-venue applications; the P400 is more compact and lower cost while still delivering 4K Full NDI.
Is the P400 available in white?
Yes. The BirdDog EYES P400 White (BDP400W) is available at the same price.
What PTZ controller is compatible?
The BirdDog KBD supports NDI, VISCA, and RS-422 and is fully compatible with the P400.
What PoE standard does the P400 require?
PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at) at up to 26.8W maximum. Standard PoE (802.3af) is insufficient. Ensure your switch or injector provides at least 30W per port.
