Product Overview
The Epiphan Pearl-2 Base Video Mixer is a flagship all-in-one live video production system that combines switching, encoding, recording, and multi-destination streaming for the most demanding events. Built for AV integration in broadcast studios, auditoriums, and houses of worship, this Pearl-2 hardware encoder accepts up to six video sources and produces up to six 1080p channels or one 4K channel. Operators run live production from the front touchscreen or the browser-based Epiphan Live interface, with NDI support and chroma keying for professional multi-camera workflows. It is the portable desktop counterpart to the rack-mount Pearl-2 for AV system designers who need a high-capacity live switcher.
Product Description
The Pearl-2 Base Video Mixer delivers the processing power required for broadcast-quality live production in a single portable chassis. It combines, crops, scales, and switches up to six video sources from 12G-SDI, HDMI, 4K HDMI, and IP inputs, while encoding and recording at the same time. Operators build completely custom layouts, including picture-in-picture, using the drag-and-drop editor in the web-based Admin panel, and apply backgrounds, overlay images, text, and timestamping to each program.
For live events and installed AV systems, the Pearl-2 streams the program output to YouTube, Facebook, Wowza, Akamai, and other CDNs over RTMP, RTMPS, SRT, RTSP, and HLS while simultaneously recording high-quality ISO files to the internal 512 GB SSD for post-production. A built-in streaming server distributes unicast and multicast streams across the local network. The system integrates with content and learning management platforms such as Kaltura, Panopto, YuJa, and Opencast, and exposes an HTTP/HTTPS and RS-232 API plus Crestron and Q-SYS drivers for control-system integration. Note that 4K encoding and streaming are now standard on current Pearl-2 units; the separate 4K add-on is only required for units purchased before April 5, 2026.
