Product Overview
The RGB Spectrum D2004 is a Zio AV-over-IP decoder that receives HD and 4K streams over an IP network and drives a display, making it a strong fit for video walls, control rooms, and distributed digital signage. This H.264/H.265 video over IP decoder attaches to a standard 1 Gigabit Ethernet switch and feeds a connected display with content from any compatible Zio encoder. With Power over Ethernet support and a compact half-rack footprint, it streamlines installation in commercial AV systems that replace dedicated matrix switching with IP distribution. Integrators specifying scalable AV-over-IP endpoints will find the D2004 a flexible 4K decoder for enterprise, government, and security deployments.
Product Description
The D2004 is the decode endpoint in RGB Spectrum's Zio AV-over-IP platform, a family of encoders and decoders that distribute video, audio, and control over commodity IP networking instead of dedicated switchers. Zio endpoints attach to a 1 Gigabit Ethernet switch, with encoders accepting computer and video sources up to 4K and decoders such as the D2004 on the far side feeding displays or a video wall. The decoder supports both H.264 and H.265 compression and is designed to work with compatible Zio encoders like the S2004 4K encoder and other H.264/H.265 compliant devices.

Zio's peer-to-peer architecture avoids a single point of failure and scales across rooms, buildings, campuses, or cities as endpoints are added. The platform suits a local building LAN as well as lower-bandwidth links to remote sites, and it can bridge traditional baseband AV through RGB Spectrum's Linx matrix switchers so analog and digital sources coexist with IP traffic. A browser-based HTML5 control interface provides live stream thumbnails and lets operators manage endpoints from a PC, tablet, or phone. Key Features
- HD and 4K Decoding — Drives displays at up to 4K 4096 x 2160, so high-resolution streams reach the screen without external scaling.
- H.264 and H.265 Support — Decodes both industry-standard compression formats for compatibility with a wide range of Zio and third-party encoders.
- Power over Ethernet — PoE+ support delivers power and data over one cable to simplify display-side installation.
- Peer-to-Peer Scalability — Adds to a standard 1 Gigabit switch with no central matrix, growing from a single display to an entire campus.
- USB and Serial Control — Includes a USB-3 port and RS-232 serial control alongside network management.
- Browser-Based Control — An HTML5 interface manages streams and endpoints from Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices.
- Flexible Audio Support — Outputs digital embedded HDMI audio or analog mono with the decoded video.
Typical Applications
- Control rooms and command centers — Feeds operator displays and shared video walls with live IP streams from across the facility.
- Conference rooms and boardrooms — Drives meeting-room displays with sources distributed over the building network.
- Government and security spaces — Supports scalable display distribution for facilities standardized on IP infrastructure.
- Training rooms and multi-purpose rooms — Delivers shared content to multiple displays without point-to-point cabling.
- Commercial digital signage — Receives source streams to drive displays distributed across rooms or buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions
What encoders is the D2004 compatible with?
It is designed to work with compatible Zio encoders such as the S2004, and with other H.264/H.265 compliant encode endpoints on the same network.
How is the decoder installed?
The unit has a compact 1" x 8" x 4" half-rack footprint, mounts near the display, and connects to a standard 1 Gigabit Ethernet switch; PoE+ lets a single cable carry both power and data.
How does it integrate with an existing AV system?
It attaches to a standard IP network and can bridge to traditional baseband AV through RGB Spectrum's Linx matrix switchers, with browser-based HTML5 control for stream and endpoint management.
Does it support 4K?
Yes. The D2004 decodes streams up to 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz and drives displays up to 4096 x 2160 @ 24 Hz.
What is the warranty and how do I get support?
The D2004 carries a 1-year warranty. For application help, quotes, or support, contact Creation Networks at 888-230-3661 or our contact page.
