Product Overview

The RGB Spectrum S2004 is a Zio AV-over-IP encoder built for HD and 4K video distribution across an IP network, making it a practical choice for video walls, control rooms, and multi-room digital signage. This rack-friendly H.264 video over IP encoder accepts a source over a locking HDMI connector with loop-through and streams it to any compatible Zio decoder on a standard 1 Gigabit Ethernet switch. With Power over Ethernet support and a compact half-rack footprint, it simplifies installation in commercial AV systems where dedicated source-to-display cabling is impractical. Integrators specifying scalable AV-over-IP distribution will find the S2004 a cost-effective encoder endpoint for enterprise and government deployments.

Product Description

The S2004 is part of RGB Spectrum's Zio AV-over-IP platform, a family of encoders and decoders that move video, audio, and control over commodity IP networking rather than dedicated matrix switchers. Zio endpoints attach to a 1 Gigabit Ethernet switch, with encoders accepting computer and video sources at resolutions up to 4K and decoders on the far side feeding displays or a video wall. The S2004 captures the source over a locking HDMI input with loop-through, applies industry-standard H.264 compression, and publishes a single output stream that any compatible Zio decoder, such as the D2004 4K decoder, can subscribe to.

Because Zio uses a peer-to-peer architecture, the system avoids a single point of failure and scales across rooms, buildings, campuses, or cities as endpoints are added. Flexible compression makes it well suited to a local building LAN or a lower-bandwidth link to a remote site. The platform can also bridge traditional baseband AV through RGB Spectrum's Linx matrix switchers, letting analog and digital sources coexist with IP traffic. A browser-based HTML5 control interface provides live stream thumbnails and lets operators manage endpoints from a PC, tablet, or phone. Key Features

  • HD and 4K Encoding — Accepts sources up to 4K 4096 x 2160 and streams over IP so high-resolution content reaches displays without dedicated cabling.
  • H.264 Compression — Uses industry-standard H.264 encoding for efficient, low-bandwidth transport across LAN and WAN links.
  • Locking HDMI Input with Loop-Through — Provides a secure source connection and a pass-through output for a local monitor in the rack or at the source.
  • Power over Ethernet — PoE+ support delivers power and data over one cable to simplify installation and reduce outlet dependency.
  • Peer-to-Peer Scalability — Endpoints add to a standard 1 Gigabit switch with no central matrix, so systems grow from one room to an entire campus.
  • Browser-Based Control — An HTML5 interface manages streams and endpoints from Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android devices.
  • Flexible Audio Support — Carries digital embedded HDMI audio or analog mono alongside the video stream.

Typical Applications

  • Control rooms and command centers — Distributes live operator sources to monitoring positions and shared video walls over IP.
  • Conference rooms and boardrooms — Sends presentation and laptop sources to displays in meeting spaces across a building.
  • Government and security spaces — Supports scalable source distribution for facilities that standardize on IP infrastructure.
  • Training rooms and multi-purpose rooms — Feeds shared content to multiple displays without point-to-point cabling.
  • Commercial digital signage — Streams source content to displays distributed across rooms or buildings.

Frequently Asked Questions

What decoders is the S2004 compatible with?
The S2004 works with compatible Zio decoders such as the D2004 4K decoder, as well as H.264/H.265 compliant decode endpoints on the same network.

How is the encoder installed in a rack?
The unit has a compact 1" x 8" x 4" half-rack footprint and connects to a standard 1 Gigabit Ethernet switch; PoE+ lets a single cable carry both power and data.

How does it integrate with an existing AV system?
It attaches to a standard IP network and can bridge to traditional baseband AV through RGB Spectrum's Linx matrix switchers, with browser-based HTML5 control for stream and endpoint management.

What network does it require?
Zio endpoints connect to a 1 Gigabit Ethernet switch and operate over dedicated or shared networks, scaling from a single room to a multi-building campus.

What is the warranty and how do I get support?
The S2004 carries a 1-year warranty. For application help, quotes, or support, contact Creation Networks at 888-230-3661 or our contact page.
