Product Overview

The Lightware HDMI-OPTN-TX200AU2K is an SDVoE-based HDMI 2.0 fiber optical transmitter for point-to-multipoint AV distribution over single-mode or multimode fiber. It accepts HDMI 2.0 video and transmits it — along with embedded audio, Ethernet, RS-232, and USB 2.0 KVM data — to one or more compatible OPTN series receivers via a user-supplied SFP+ module. A local HDMI loop output at the transmitter provides source monitoring without additional hardware. At distances up to 10 km with single-mode fiber, it serves as the source endpoint for large-scale distributed AV systems where copper transmission is impractical.

Product Description

The HDMI-OPTN-TX200AU2K is the transmitter complement to the HDMI-OPTN-RX100AU2K and HDMI-OPTN-RX100A-SR receivers. In a point-to-multipoint SDVoE network, a single TX200AU2K can feed multiple receiver units over a fiber-connected IP switch, distributing a 4K HDMI 2.0 source across an entire building, campus, or venue without signal degradation from copper attenuation or electromagnetic interference.

The SFP+ cage accepts industry-standard modules, giving the integrator the choice of fiber type and reach without constraining the installation to a proprietary optical interface. USB 2.0 is carried over the fiber link in both transparent mode (supporting cameras, microphones, mass storage, and HID devices) and composite HID mode — allowing USB peripherals at remote display locations to communicate with the source, or USB devices at the transmitter to be accessed from the receiver side. An analog audio de-embedded output on the transmitter provides local stereo extraction for audio distribution near the source location. RS-232 pass-through carries serial control data alongside the video signal. All signals — video, audio, USB, control, and Ethernet — travel over a single fiber connection to the switch infrastructure.

Key Features

  • SDVoE fiber transmission — point-to-multipoint distribution of HDMI 2.0 over SM or MM fiber via SFP+ interface
  • Up to 10 km on single-mode fiber — provides range for large campus, multi-building, or arena-scale distribution
  • 4K HDMI 2.0 input — 4K UHD @60Hz RGB 4:4:4 up to 18 Gbps, HDCP 2.3 compliant
  • USB 2.0 KVM over fiber — transparent mode for cameras, microphones, and mass storage; composite HID mode for keyboards and mice
  • Local HDMI loop output — source monitoring at the transmitter location without signal splitting or additional equipment
  • Analog audio output — 5-pole Phoenix de-embedding for local audio distribution near the source
  • RS-232 pass-through — serial control data carried alongside video over the fiber link
  • HDR and Low Latency Dolby Vision — end-to-end support in the fiber transmission chain
  • SFP+ module flexibility — user-supplied SM or MM module matches installed fiber plant without hardware modification
  • HDCP 2.3 — full content protection compliance across the fiber link

Typical Applications

  • University campuses distributing lecture capture or presentation content from a central source room to multiple fiber-connected classrooms
  • Corporate headquarters with a central AV source room feeding fiber-connected boardrooms and meeting spaces across multiple floors
  • Arenas and large venues distributing 4K content from a broadcast production area to concourse and suite displays via existing fiber
  • Medical facilities transmitting imaging or video content over fiber to remote display stations with USB peripheral access
  • Digital signage networks with a central media server distributing content to many fiber-connected display endpoints

Frequently Asked Questions

Which receivers are compatible with this transmitter?
The HDMI-OPTN-TX200AU2K is designed to pair with Lightware OPTN series receivers, including the HDMI-OPTN-RX100AU2K (with USB KVM and local output) and the HDMI-OPTN-RX100A-SR (with integrated scaler). In a point-to-multipoint deployment, it can feed multiple receivers simultaneously via a fiber network switch.
Does the SFP+ module need to match on both transmitter and receiver?
Yes. The SFP+ modules at both the transmitter and receiver must be compatible for fiber type (SM or MM), wavelength, and data rate. Mismatched modules will not establish a link. Contact Creation Networks for guidance on matched SFP+ pairs for your fiber plant.
Can a single transmitter feed multiple display locations simultaneously?
Yes. In a point-to-multipoint SDVoE network, one TX200AU2K can distribute to any number of receivers connected to the same fiber-connected IP switch, subject to network bandwidth and switch configuration. This is the core use case for digital signage, campus distribution, and multi-room video systems.
What is the maximum HDMI cable length between the source and this transmitter?
For 4K@60Hz 4:4:4 sources, premium certified HDMI 2.0 cables up to approximately 5 m are reliable at full bandwidth. For longer source-to-transmitter connections, an HDMI signal conditioner or shorter cable run may be required. The transmitter does not extend the HDMI copper connection — it converts to fiber from the HDMI input port.
Is this unit suitable for a live events environment with frequent setup and teardown?
The transmitter is designed for permanent installation. For touring or rental applications, the SFP+ module and fiber connections require care to avoid contamination or physical damage. Confirm suitability with your AV rental or production team, and use appropriate fiber connector protection when the unit is not in use.
What network switch specifications are required for the SDVoE fiber network?
The fiber switch must support the data rate of the SDVoE signal being transmitted and have sufficient SFP+ ports or compatible interfaces for the transmitter and all receivers. A managed switch with IGMP snooping enabled is required for multicast point-to-multipoint deployments. Contact Creation Networks for switch selection guidance.
Where can I purchase with pre-sales engineering support?
Available at creationnetworks.net. The team provides fiber link design, SFP+ selection, and SDVoE network topology planning for OPTN system installations.
