Product Overview
The PTZOptics SuperJoy (PT-SUPERJOY-G1) is a professional PTZ camera joystick controller that provides simultaneous IP and serial control for up to 253 cameras across multiple brands and protocols. Designed for broadcast studios, houses of worship, government facilities, and corporate production environments, it combines VISCA over IP, NDI, RS-232, RS-485, and Pelco-D/P control in a single aluminum chassis with an HDMI 1080p video preview output. The SuperJoy supports Basic, Basic Plus, and Matrix control modes to accommodate operators of any skill level, and programmable Super-Presets allow synchronized multi-camera preset recall across up to five camera groups.
Product Description
The PTZOptics SuperJoy is a full-featured PTZ camera joystick controller built for production crews that need precise, real-time control over large multi-camera systems. The 3-axis joystick with twist focus control and pressure-sensitive dials gives operators fine-grained pan, tilt, zoom, and focus adjustment without navigating on-screen menus. An integrated HDMI 1.3 output displays a live 1080p video preview from any connected camera with an RTSP feed, allowing the operator to monitor the selected camera directly at the controller position over a local area network. Control extends across IP-based cameras via VISCA over IP (PTZOptics and Sony protocols) and NDI version 4.0 or later, as well as serial cameras connected via RS-232 (up to 50 ft), RS-485 (up to 3,937 ft), or RS-422. This makes the SuperJoy compatible with PTZOptics, HuddleCamHD, Sony, BirdDog, Lumens, Marshall, NewTek, Panasonic, JVC, AIDA, AVer, and many other brands. Camera capacity reaches 253 total channels organized into five groups: Groups 1–4 support 7 cameras each, and Group 5 supports up to 225 cameras. Super-Preset buttons trigger synchronized preset recall across up to four camera groups simultaneously, enabling rapid scene transitions. The custom joystick button at the top of the stick is fully programmable — configurable to trigger recording in OBS or vMix, or activate auto-tracking on the selected camera. Automatic trigger functionality lets the controller send HTTP or IP commands to connected switchers or production equipment when the operator changes cameras, integrating the SuperJoy into automated production workflows. Three control modes — Basic, Basic Plus, and Matrix — allow organizations to restrict functionality for volunteer operators while giving experienced technical directors full access to all features. The unit is PoE (802.3af) or DC 12V powered, NDAA 2019 Section 889 compliant, and backed by a 2-year manufacturer warranty with US-based support.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between the SuperJoy and the PT-JOY-G4?
A: The SuperJoy supports simultaneous IP and serial camera control, an HDMI video preview output, and five programmable camera groups including a 225-camera Group 5. The PT-JOY-G4 supports IP or serial control (not simultaneously), has HDMI output, and controls up to 255 cameras via network or 7 via serial. The SuperJoy is the higher-capability unit for complex multi-camera and multi-brand installations.
Q: Can the SuperJoy control cameras from brands other than PTZOptics?
A: Yes. The SuperJoy is compatible with any camera that supports VISCA over IP (Sony protocol or PTZOptics protocol), NDI v4.0+, RS-232, RS-485, Pelco-D, or Pelco-P. Confirmed compatible brands include Sony, BirdDog, Lumens, Marshall, JVC, AIDA, AVer, Panasonic, NewTek, and HuddleCamHD, among others.
Q: Does the HDMI output show live video or just a status display?
A: The HDMI output shows a live 1080p video preview from the currently selected camera, sourced from that camera’s RTSP stream over the local area network. It functions as a built-in decoder, giving the operator a real-time visual reference without a separate monitor feed from the production switcher.
Q: What are Super-Presets and how do they work?
A: Super-Presets are programmable buttons that trigger a preset recall command across multiple camera groups simultaneously. For example, pressing a Super-Preset can move Camera 1 to position A, Camera 2 to position B, and Camera 3 to position C in a single button press. This is particularly useful for houses of worship or event venues that switch between repeated production scenes.
Q: Can the SuperJoy integrate with OBS, vMix, or video switchers?
A: Yes. The programmable custom joystick button supports HTTP commands mapped to software like OBS or vMix for triggering recording or scene switching. The Automatic Triggers feature sends IP/HTTP commands to connected hardware or software when the operator changes camera selection, enabling integration with video switchers, Epiphan Pearl, and similar production equipment.
Q: How far can cameras be located from the SuperJoy?
A: For IP-controlled cameras, standard Ethernet distance applies (328 ft / 100m per segment, extendable with switches). For RS-485 serial control, the maximum cable run is 3,937 ft (1200m) using 24-gauge twisted pair. RS-232 is limited to 50 ft (15m).
Q: Is the SuperJoy suitable for volunteer operators?
A: Yes. Basic and Basic Plus modes restrict the interface to preset recall and single-camera control, minimizing the risk of incorrect adjustments during live production. Expert operators can access full programming and multi-camera matrix control.
