Product Overview
The Lightware HDMI20-OPTC-TX220-PRO is the transmitter unit of a professional HDMI 2.0 fiber optical extender pair engineered for uncompressed 4K UHD signal transport over long-distance multimode fiber in commercial and broadcast AV installations. Carrying up to 18 Gbps over a single optical strand to a receive distance of 700 meters on OM3/OM4 fiber, the TX220-PRO accepts two HDMI 2.0 sources and outputs a local HDMI 2.0 monitor loop, making it suitable for operator preview in broadcast control rooms and live event switching environments. The unit is HDCP 2.2 compliant, supports HDR 10, HDR 12, and Dolby Vision, and provides bidirectional Gigabit Ethernet and RS-232 transport over the same fiber. Paired with the HDMI20-OPTC-RX220-PRO receiver, this is a complete point-to-point 4K fiber extender system for demanding professional applications.
Product Description
The HDMI20-OPTC-TX220-PRO takes two HDMI 2.0 inputs at 18 Gbps and provides one local HDMI 2.0 output at 18 Gbps for operator monitoring at the source end. A front-panel Jog Dial and select button give the operator direct access to input selection and EDID configuration without a control system, while an LCD menu displays current EDID settings and link status. Lightware's Advanced EDID Management allows factory preset, custom, or transparent EDID profiles to be written to each HDMI input, forcing sources to output the resolution the system requires rather than negotiating with the downstream display.

The Neutrik OpticalCON DUO fiber port provides a tour-grade connector interface for both permanent and rental/staging installations. Status LEDs indicate power, fiber link, HDCP, and per-input signal presence. The unit is 1RU half-rack width, mounts with included rack ears, and includes threaded mounting points on the top and side panels for fixed-installation compliance. Available from Creation Networks as a stand-alone transmitter or paired with the RX220-PRO.

- 18 Gbps Uncompressed Transport — Full HDMI 2.0 bandwidth supports 4096x2160@60Hz 4:4:4 (DCI 4K) without compression.
- Up to 700m on OM3/OM4 Fiber — Maximum range at full 4K60 4:4:4; up to 2500m at 1080p on OM4.
- Single Fiber CWDM Technology — Video, control, and Ethernet travel on one fiber using 6-channel wavelength multiplexing.
- HDR 10, HDR 12, Dolby Vision — Full HDR passthrough within the 18 Gbps frame budget at 10 and 12 bit color.
- HDCP 2.2 Compliant — Current content protection standard for professional display environments.
- Advanced EDID Management with LCD Display — Front-panel LCD and Jog Dial for on-device EDID programming; 256-byte extended EDID support.
- Bidirectional RS-232 — 9.6 to 57.6 kBaud transparent serial control pass-through over the fiber link.
- Dual EtherCON Gigabit Ports — One control, one transparent pass-through; both carried over the same fiber using CWDM.
- Pixel Accurate Reclocking — Eliminates jitter and skew from source devices and cascaded signal chains.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Can the TX220-PRO select between its two HDMI inputs?
- Yes. The front-panel Jog Dial and select button allow the operator to switch between the two HDMI 2.0 inputs directly on the unit. Input switching can also be managed via Ethernet or RS-232 control.
- What is the local monitor output for?
- The 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0 output on the transmitter provides a confidence or operator monitor feed at the source location, independent of the fiber-transmitted signal.
- Does the TX220-PRO support 4096x2160 DCI 4K?
- Yes. The unit supports the full DCI 4K resolution of 4096x2160@60Hz 4:4:4 up to 700m on OM3 or OM4 fiber.
- Can I use it with single-mode fiber?
- The HDMI20-OPTC-TX220-PRO is designed for multimode fiber (OM1–OM4). For single-mode applications, contact Creation Networks for alternative Lightware optical extender options.
- Is the EDID programmable without a control system?
- Yes. The front-panel LCD menu and Jog Dial allow direct EDID configuration on the unit without a PC or control system. Custom EDID profiles can also be loaded via the Lightware Device Controller software.
- Can this unit power the RX220-PRO?
- No. Both the TX220-PRO and RX220-PRO have independent internal AC/DC power supplies and require separate IEC power connections.
- What control interfaces are available?
- The TX220-PRO is controllable via Ethernet (LAN), RS-232 (DE-9 serial port), and USB (Mini USB B). The LW3 protocol is used for programmatic control.
