Product Overview

The Lab Gruppen D 120:4L is a 12,000W 4-channel installation amplifier combining onboard Lake DSP and Dante digital audio networking in a 2U rack-mount chassis. Designed for large commercial sound installations including stadiums, arenas, performing arts centers, and theme parks, this amplifier gives system integrators a single-rack-unit solution for power, processing, and network-integrated control. The Lab Gruppen D 120:4L 4-channel Lake DSP amplifier with Dante is a primary specification choice for AV designers requiring high-power output with enterprise-grade audio networking and loudspeaker management.

Product Description

The D 120:4L is built on the same Class-TD amplifier platform as Lab Gruppen's PLM Series, updated with installation-focused hardware and software features. Its 12,000W total burst power is managed by Rational Power Management (RPM), which allows integrators to freely reallocate available power across all four channels. On the D 120:4L, up to two channels can each deliver up to 5,000W without bridging, with remaining power distributed to other channels as needed. This eliminates the need to over-specify amplifiers to meet single-channel peak demands, directly reducing equipment counts and rack space requirements.

Four Lake processing modules — one per channel — provide full loudspeaker management including Classic, linear-phase, and FIR crossover filters, parametric EQ, delay, and LimiterMax peak and RMS limiters. Audio inputs are selectable from four analog channels with Iso-Float ground isolation, four AES/EBU channels supporting up to 192 kHz, and eight dual-redundant Dante channels with AES67 support, with per-channel programmable failover to analog. Dual RJ45 Ethernet ports handle both Lake Controller and Dante Controller traffic. CAFE software provides system design, Equipment Specification Predictor tools, and commissioning support. The amplifier includes Under-Voltage Limiting (UVL) for continued operation during mains supply drops, Breaker Emulation Limiter (BEL), and front-panel per-channel mute buttons with bicolor LED indication. Output connectors are rated at 1000V/76A and accept cables up to 16mm².

Key Features

  • 12,000W Total Burst Power with RPM — Up to 2 channels can each deliver up to 5,900W single-channel max output; remaining power allocated to other channels via RPM.
  • Four Lake Processing Modules — Full Classic/linear-phase/FIR crossover, EQ, delay, and LimiterMax limiters on each channel for complete loudspeaker management.
  • Dual-Redundant Dante Networking — 8x8 Dante I/O with AES67 support, daisy-chain and redundant topologies, network latency from 0.25ms.
  • Flexible Input Selection — Per-channel selectable from 4 analog (Iso-Float), 4 AES3, or 8 Dante inputs with programmable analog failover.
  • Class-TD Output Stage — Combines Class-A/B audio quality with Class-D efficiency via the proprietary Intercooler cooling system.
  • Under-Voltage Limiting (UVL) — Keeps the amplifier running during severe mains supply voltage drops, supporting PA and voice alarm continuity.
  • Third-Party Control Integration — Compatible with Q-Sys, MediaMatrix, and other control systems over UDP Ethernet.
  • CAFE System Design Software — Equipment Specification Predictor tools for load modeling, heat output, and UPS and mains infrastructure planning.
  • 2U Rack-Mount Chassis — 483 x 88 x 424mm with rear support brackets, removable dust filter, and touch-button front panel controls.
  • Mass Notification Ready — On-board load monitoring, redundant inputs, and system surveillance for voice alarm system compliance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the maximum single-channel output power on the D 120:4L?

A: Up to two channels on the D 120:4L can each deliver up to 5,900W into 2.67 ohms using RPM. Standard operation with all four channels driven delivers up to 3,000W per channel into 2, 4, or 70/100V loads.

Q: Does the D 120:4L support 70V and 100V constant-voltage speaker systems?

A: Yes. Each output channel supports Hi-Z 70V and 100V operation alongside Lo-Z loads from 2 to 16 ohms, making the D 120:4L compatible with both traditional distributed audio and direct-coupled speaker systems.

Q: Can I control the D 120:4L from Q-Sys or Crestron?

A: The D Series Lake platform integrates with Q-Sys and MediaMatrix via a dedicated UDP Ethernet protocol. Third-party middleware can also be used for integration with other widely deployed control and matrix systems.

Q: What audio inputs are available and how is failover handled?

A: Each channel independently selects from four analog inputs (Iso-Float), four AES/EBU inputs, or eight dual-redundant Dante inputs. Programmable failover to analog is configurable per channel, and automatic 4-level input redundancy is built into the Lake processing platform.

Q: Is the D 120:4L compliant for voice alarm or mass notification use?

A: The amplifier includes on-board load monitoring, system surveillance, and redundant input support, which are key requirements for PA/VA system compliance. Consult your local authority and system designer for jurisdiction-specific certification requirements.

Q: What is RPM and how does it reduce equipment costs?

A: Rational Power Management (RPM) allows the total 12,000W to be redistributed across the four channels dynamically. Rather than buying a separate high-power amplifier for one demanding zone, RPM lets a single D 120:4L handle mixed power requirements, reducing amplifier inventory and rack space.

Q: What is included with the D 120:4L and what is required separately?

A: The unit ships with a detachable twist-lock mains cable (plug selectable at order). Lake Controller and Dante Controller software are available from Lab Gruppen and Audinate respectively. CAFE design software is freely available from Lab Gruppen.
