Crestron DM-NVX-385 – DM NVX 5K 4x1 AV-over-IP Switcher with Downmixing
Product Overview
The Crestron DM-NVX-385 is a 5K 4x1 AV-over-IP switcher with audio downmixing — the premium current-generation DM NVX presentation switcher combining four HDMI/USB-C inputs, built-in 4x1 source selection, 5K video encoding, and audio downmixing into a single device for BYOD conference rooms and presentation spaces requiring seamless source switching between multiple connected laptops and devices. It replaces the DM-NVX-384 as the current recommended switcher model for new conference room presentation switching applications.
Product Description
Conference rooms with BYOD laptop presentation requirements need both a local video switcher (to select between the currently presenting laptop and the previous one) and an AV-over-IP encoder to distribute the selected source across the DM NVX system. The DM-NVX-385 combines these two functions into a single device: four inputs (HDMI and USB-C) accept connections from multiple laptops or devices simultaneously, the internal 4x1 switcher selects the active source, and the DM NVX encoder streams the selected source to decoders across the network. The audio downmixing engine processes multi-channel audio from HDMI sources to stereo for AV system audio output. The 5K resolution capability exceeds 4K, supporting the output of modern MacBooks and high-resolution Windows laptops at their native resolutions. A USB-C input enables modern thin-and-light laptops to connect with a single USB-C cable for simultaneous video, audio, and USB pass-through without a separate dock or HDMI adapter.
Key Features
- 5K AV-over-IP Encoding: Encodes up to 5K resolution — exceeds 4K, supporting native resolutions of modern MacBook Pro, Dell, and HP premium laptops without scaling artifacts.
- 4x1 Input Switching: Selects between up to 4 connected sources (HDMI + USB-C inputs) with automatic or control system-commanded source switching.
- USB-C Input: Single-cable connection for modern laptops — video, audio, and USB-C data over one cable without a dock or adapter.
- Audio Downmixing: On-board downmixing of HDMI embedded surround audio to stereo for AV system audio output.
- Current-Generation Model: Replaces DM-NVX-384 as the recommended 5K AV-over-IP switcher for new conference room installations.
- Card Version: DM-NVX-384C card version for DMF-CI-8 chassis installations (check with Creation Networks on NVX-385C availability).
Typical Applications
- BYOD conference rooms where multiple laptops connect simultaneously and the room needs to switch between presenters without re-plugging cables
- Executive boardrooms with multiple presenter positions requiring seamless switching between presenter inputs
- Training rooms and classrooms where instructor and student devices connect via HDMI and USB-C for source selection and IP distribution
- Collaboration spaces where the active display source must switch between participants over a DM NVX distribution system
