Product Overview

The Lightware MX2M-4HDMI20-OB is a four-port HDMI 2.0 output board for the Lightware MX2M modular matrix family. It adds four HDMI 2.0 compliant outputs to an MX2M-FR24R frame, supporting 4K UHD @60Hz 4:4:4 video distribution with zero-frame latency and comprehensive audio management including Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD pass-through. Designed for broadcast, enterprise, and large-venue AV installations, the hot-swappable board integrates into operating frames without disrupting active signal routing. Long-tail keywords: Lightware MX2M HDMI 2.0 output board 4K modular matrix, MX2M-4HDMI20-OB hot-swap HDMI output expansion card, large format AV matrix 4K HDMI output board.

Product Description

The MX2M-4HDMI20-OB provides four HDMI 2.0 type A outputs to the MX2M crosspoint, each capable of passing 4K UHD @60Hz 4:4:4 at up to 18 Gbps with a 600 MHz pixel clock. Signals are routed from any input in the matrix and passed to connected displays, projectors, or downstream devices with zero frame delay. Audio flexibility is a key strength of the board: it passes through all HDMI 2.0 audio formats including LPCM (up to 8 channels), Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD DA, and a full range of compressed formats (AC-3, Dolby Digital variants, DTS variants). It also embeds audio from the MX2M Audio Layer into output HDMI streams, enabling independent audio routing separate from video. HDCP 2.3 and HDCP 1.4 with cross-conversion are supported across all four ports. CEC command injection enables display control without additional control cabling. Deep color support covers 24, 30, and 36-bit RGB/YCbCr 4:4:4. The DisplayID extreme format forcing feature allows non-standard resolutions such as 7000×1000 to be driven from connected sources without physical reconnection.

Lightware MX2M-4HDMI20-OB HDMI 2.0 Output Board

Key Features

  • 4x HDMI 2.0 Outputs — Four type A HDMI outputs per board, expandable by adding multiple boards in the MX2M frame.
  • 4K UHD @60Hz 4:4:4 — Full 18 Gbps bandwidth with 600 MHz pixel clock; zero frame latency.
  • Dolby Atmos and DTS-HD DA Pass-Through — Full HBR audio pass-through to connected displays and audio systems.
  • Audio Layer Embedding — Inserts compressed and LPCM audio from the MX2M Audio Layer into output HDMI streams independently from video routing.
  • HDCP 2.3 + 1.4 Cross-Conversion — Handles mixed HDCP sink environments automatically.
  • CEC Command Injection — Control displays at HDMI outputs via CEC for display power and input switching.
  • Deep Color Support — 24/30/36-bit RGB/YCbCr 4:4:4 signals passed without conversion.
  • 3D Signal Support — Frame packing, side-by-side, and top-bottom 3D formats.
  • DisplayID Extreme Format Forcing — Drives non-standard resolutions (e.g. 7000×1000 @60Hz 4:4:4) from connected sources.
  • Hot-Swap Support — Board installed or removed without frame power-down.
  • Zero Frame Latency — No processing delay added to routed signals.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many MX2M-4HDMI20-OB boards can be installed in one MX2M-FR24R frame?
The MX2M-FR24R has 24 board slots. The number of output boards is limited by the frame's total slot count shared with input boards and auxiliary boards. Consult the MX2M system design guide for slot planning.
Does the board introduce any processing delay to video signals?
No. The MX2M-4HDMI20-OB passes signals with zero frame latency, making it suitable for live production and real-time monitoring applications.
Can audio from one source be embedded into the video output of a different source?
Yes. The MX2M Audio Layer routes audio independently from video. The board can embed any audio stream from the Audio Layer into each HDMI output regardless of the video source assigned to that output.
What is the DisplayID extreme format forcing feature?
This feature forces connected sources to output non-standard resolutions (such as 7000×1000 @60Hz 4:4:4) by presenting a custom EDID to the source, useful for LED wall, visualization, and simulation applications.
Is a flanged connector available on all four HDMI ports?
Yes. All four HDMI type A connectors are available with or without flange, allowing screw-locking cables to be used for secure connections in broadcast and live event environments.
Does CEC work automatically or require programming?
CEC command injection is configured through the MX2M frame's control software. Specific CEC commands can be mapped to routing events or triggered by external control system signals.
