It passes the source to a local display through HDMI loop-through, captures 10-bit and HDR content through the SDK, and works driver-free as a webcam in Zoom, Teams, OBS and other software. It is Magewell's highest-performance USB capture device for 4K presentation, production and streaming PCs.

How does the Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro work?

A 600 MHz HDMI 2.0 receiver accepts input and loop-through up to 4K60 4:4:4 with a custom EDID and up to eight channels of embedded audio. A processing pipeline of about 700 megapixels per second crops, scales, deinterlaces and converts color format and frame rate on the device, and delivers capture formats up to 4096×2160, or high frame rates up to 240 fps at lower resolutions, with 10-bit output formats including P010 and Y210.

Full 4K60 capture requires a host with a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port; on slower USB ports the device still works at reduced resolution or frame rate. The 3.5 mm jack takes a microphone and drives headphones, so the device also acts as a USB audio interface. The computer sees a standard UVC and UAC device on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS, and the MWCapture SDK supports custom applications. It is bus-powered and rated for 24/7 operation.

What are the key features of the Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro?

4K60 4:4:4 capture — Captures HDMI up to 4096×2160 60p over a 20 Gbps USB connection.

HDMI 2.0 loop-through — Passes the 4K60 source to a local display while capturing.

10-bit and HDR — Outputs 10-bit formats and supports HDR capture through the SDK.

High frame rates — Captures up to 240 fps at lower resolutions.

Driver-free — Works as a standard webcam in conferencing and streaming software.

USB audio interface — Microphone input and headphone output on one 3.5 mm jack.

Where is the Magewell USB Capture HDMI 4K Pro typically used?

Broadcast studio

Conference room

Training room

House of worship

Technical Specifications

<colgroup>
<col style="width:40%">
<col style="width:60%">
</colgroup>

Video input

HDMI 2.0, DVI-D; up to 4096×2160 60p 4:4:4; custom EDID

Loop-through

HDMI, up to 4K60 4:4:4

Audio

Up to 8-ch HDMI embedded; 3.5 mm mic in and headphone out

Capture

Up to 4096×2160; up to 240 fps; P010, Y210, NV12, I420, YUYV, UYVY, RGB24, RGB32

Processing

~700 Mpixel/s; up to 10-bit

Host

USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps); works on slower ports at reduced rates

OS

Windows, Linux (x86, x64, ARM), macOS, Chrome OS

Size

98.1 × 56.8 × 18 mm

Operating temp

0 to 60 °C

Warranty

3 years

Frequently Asked Questions

What do I need for full 4K60 capture?
A computer with a 20 Gbps USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 port.
