It captures up to 2048×2160 from digital sources with analog conversion for legacy computers, and adds a line input and line output. It is a dependable way to capture older computers, medical and lab equipment, and mixed-vintage presentation sources into conferencing, recording or streaming software.

How does the Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus work?

Sources connect to the DVI-I port directly, through the included DVI-to-VGA adapter, or through the breakout cable for HDMI and component. Digital sources go through a 225 MHz receiver up to 1080p60 4:4:4 with a custom EDID, while VGA and component are digitized by a 12-bit converter that supports separate, composite, sync-on-green and sync-on-luma timing plus custom CVT and GTF timings for nonstandard outputs.

Onboard processing crops, scales, deinterlaces and converts format and frame rate, then sends video to the computer over USB 3.0 at up to 120 fps. Audio comes from the HDMI signal or the 3.5 mm line input, with a 3.5 mm line output for monitoring. The computer sees a standard UVC and UAC device, so no drivers are needed, and the MWCapture SDK supports custom applications. It is bus-powered at about 3 W.

What are the key features of the Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus?

DVI, VGA, HDMI and component — Captures digital and analog computer sources through one port.

12-bit analog conversion — Handles legacy VGA and component sources, including sync-on-green.

Custom timings — Supports DMT, CEA, CVT, GTF and custom timings for nonstandard computers.

Driver-free capture — Works as a standard webcam on Windows, Mac, Linux and Chrome OS.

Line in and line out — Adds analog audio and monitoring through 3.5 mm jacks.

Bus-powered — Runs from the USB port at about 3 W.

Where is the Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus typically used?

Training room

Government space

Conference room

Broadcast studio

Technical Specifications

<colgroup>
<col style="width:40%">
<col style="width:60%">
</colgroup>

Input port

DVI-I: DVI 1.0; HDMI 1.4a (breakout); VGA (adapter); component (breakout)

Digital input

225 MHz receiver; up to 1920×1080 60p 4:4:4; custom EDID

Analog input

12-bit ADC; up to 165 MHz pixel rate; SOG/SOY sync

Capture

Up to 2048×2160, up to 120 fps; YUYV, UYVY, RGB24, RGB32

Audio

HDMI embedded; 3.5 mm line in and line out; 2-ch to host

Host

USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 and 3.1 Gen 1 compatible); bus-powered

Power

5 V; about 3 W max

Size

101.5 × 56.8 × 17 mm

Operating temp

0 to 45 °C

Included

USB 3.0 cable, DVI-to-VGA adapter, DVI-I to HDMI + component breakout

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it capture VGA?
Yes, through the included DVI-to-VGA adapter, with 12-bit conversion.

Does it need drivers?
No. It is a standard UVC device on all major operating systems.

Does it work with Teams and Zoom?
Yes, and with OBS, VLC and any UVC software.

What if I also need SDI or composite?
See the USB Capture AIO, or the USB Capture HDMI Plus for HDMI-only rooms.
